The Alaska Housing Finance Corp has a new program to help those struggling to pay mortgages or rent

According to a KTVA News story, Alaskan families can apply for financial assistance through Alaska Housing Relief, a new program from the Alaska Housing Finance Corp. if their household lost income and are at less than 80% of area medium income due to economic hardships.

Up to $1200.00 of relief through the program is available statewide, with Anchorage residents eligible to apply for the Municipality of Anchorage rent and mortgage assistance as well; however, they cannot apply to use the money from both programs during the same month.

This program was proposed by Gov. Mike Dunleavy and supported by the Legislature. The money comes from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.

Applications will be accepted from June-15th-26th.  According to the program’s website, a lottery will be conducted to select recipients after the application deadline. The money is expected to be disbursed by mid-July.
