Hey Snow Riders, the Alaska Avalanche Information Center here with this week’s Snow Report thanks to our friends at Alaska Snowmobile Salvage and Classic Country 100.9.
The good news this week, the snow and cold are forecast to return. Temperatures are expected to drop back and stay below freezing by the weekend with fresh snow on the way.
The bad news is avalanche danger remains high throughout the region due to warm temperatures, heavy rain, wet snow and strong winds. There is still a persistent wide spread instability in the snowpack and snow forecasters are advising riders to avoid avalanche terrain.
When you can’t go ride, it’s a good time to practice up on your rescue skills. You’ll find a number of free and low cost options available thanks to support from the Alaska Department of Public Safety and AARP Alaska.
With Christmas around the corner, it’s also a great time to consider buying your loved ones the gift of safety. Alaska Snowmobile Salvage, located on 74th avenue in Anchorage, has low cost safety equipment available for all riders.
Before you head out, check the latest conditions at AlaskaSnow.org, carry safety equipment and know how to use it.
That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and THINK SNOW!
