Sampson is a friendly little guy, although he does tend to be reserved and a little shy at first. He is a medium energy dog who is also a little bit bossy. He can be strong willed when it comes to doing things that he doesn’t want to do, and has learned to be a little snappish when he feels he needs to assert his opinion.  He will require a confident and patient owner who can appreciate his smart nature and work with him to develop better habits. Training classes are recommended, both to help him with his obedience and also to help socialize him more in an effort to curb any protective tendencies he may have. He has not shown any food aggression here at the shelter but has shown signs that he will be protective of his toys and kennel area.  Due to *Sampson’s somewhat prickly nature , he should not go to a home with children under 12 years, or a home that has children that visit with any frequency.  An experienced adult only home would be the best fit for him.

Pet Tip of the Week:

Have you thought much about how dangerous a loose dog can be?  Even the most friendly dog can run in traffic and cause accidents, enter neighbors’ yards and injure other animals, or even injure people trying to help catch the animal.  Keeping your dog in a fence or on a tether keeps your dog and the community safe.  Visit the Mat -Su Borough website for information about dog restraint regulations.

Thank you so much for supporting the Mat-Su Animal Shelter.
